November 27, 2018.- The City Council of Rota and the Andalusia Smart City Cluster signed a collaboration agreement this morning to promote in the city a set of actions for the development of the municipality as an intelligent city, understood as more efficient, sustainable and comfortable for citizens.
The agreement, signed by the mayor of Rota, Javier Ruiz Arana, and the president of the Andalusia Smart City Cluster, Mariano Barroso, establishes the analysis and detection of needs in the urban area of ​​the municipality to provide solutions, through collaboration with companies and centers Andalusian technology, in the fields of mobility, energy efficiency, the environment and citizen management platforms.
Likewise, the agreement includes the promotion of innovation in products, processes and services associated with smart urban infrastructures, advice and collaboration with the City Council for an adequate implementation and execution of the Strategy of Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development of Rota, the implementation of pilot projects for new technologies and smart city processes and the promotion of training activities and the organization of events related to intelligent urban infrastructures, among other aspects.
As explained by the mayor of Rota, “in a tourist town like ours, which, like all, has the uniqueness of seasonality, and where there are areas of population in which from October to May very few people live, is required of a high precision in the services to be efficient and that the savings when using the public endowments is effective, so having smart services is key in our locality “.

The mayor of Rota explained that “in line with the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development (EDUSI), some lines are already focused on new technologies that allow the reduction of carbon footprint and pollution, through efficiency energy, in municipal services and public lighting. In addition, we are working with Aqualia, with the concessionaire of the FCC waste service and we want to have the rest of the company to collaborate in the development of the local strategy to improve smart services, for the benefit of citizens “.
For his part, the president of Andalusia Smart City has expressed his satisfaction to undertake “in a municipality of the economic potential of Rota a set of actions that seeks to make available to the city innovations in urban development and all the technological knowledge they have the Andalusian companies and entities that work in the field of the smart city “.
Mariano Barroso has also highlighted “the important generator effect of business, job creation and promotion of social cohesion that is associated with the implementation of particular solutions for smart cities.”
After the signing of the collaboration agreement, the mayor of Rota and the Andalusian Smart City delegation displaced to the town held the first working meeting aimed at specifying the priorities and main areas of urban action to make Rota an intelligent city.
